above: the cast of "All That Skate LA" show
I'm so excited for All That Skate LA. Unfortunately, I'm a broke college student and books are costing me so much this year. I wish I could go since LA isnt too far away from me, but I guess I would just have to settle with watching vids on youtube *insert sad face.jpg*. I'm personally glad Yuna kept Michelle and Stephane on the show. I'm not such a big Sasha Cohen fan (she falls way too much in my opinion; very inconsistent skater) so I was glad that she's not included in the line-up this time.
However, I'm quite surprised Yuna included Ashley Wagner (bronze medalist for US champs this year and failed to make it to the Olympics). Compared to the other Olympic big shots in the show, she's quite the amateur.... but I'm glad its her and not Rachel Flatt. Rachel lacks the charisma and grace, in my opinion. I've seen her skate for the US 2010, and I was surprised she won and Mirai Nagasu took second place. Mirai was robbed of the US Gold, but she proved she was better than Flatt by ranking 4th in the Olympics.
Anyway, here's the article from lifeskate.com below about the show:
Yu-Na Kim and Michelle Kwan headline 2010 All That Skate LA
The American Debut of the World’s Hottest New Skating Spectacular Starring Reigning Olympic Champion Yuna Kim, Figure Skating Legend Michelle Kwan and an All-Star Cast of Olympic, World and U.S. Figure Skating ChampionsLOS ANGELES -- Beyond boundaries, arrives an international skating spectacular unlike any other, the American premiere of "2010 All That Skate LA,” featuring reigning Olympic Champion Yuna Kim alongside the most decorated skater in U.S. history, Michelle Kwan, with an unprecedented cast of Olympic and World Champions for two performances only at STAPLES Center Saturday and Sunday October 2nd and 3rd, 2010.
The Southland premiere marks the first time Yuna has performed in the U.S. since winning her Olympic gold medal, and the much-anticipated return to U.S. ice after four years for Kwan.
“Los Angeles is very special for me as I became the World Champion there in 2009. It’s a great honor to open an event where citizens show a high level of support,” Yuna explains about her feelings. “This is my first appearance in an ice show in the U.S. and I always wanted to share my performances with the U.S. skating fans. I’m thrilled to bring the excitement to L.A.”
“I’ve really missed performing, and to be back in Los Angeles, skating at STAPLES Center makes it extra special,” said Kwan, a Los Angeles native who won the sixth of her record nine U.S. national titles at STAPLES Center in 2002. “To be able to skate in such a special show with Yuna and this incredible cast is really an honor for me. Skating fans in L.A. are in for a real treat.”When skating’s royalty join forces for a duet aptly entitled “Hero,” Michelle Kwan and Yuna Kim’s mirroring edges alternately complement their artistry, and with the ease of masters, they evoke the message of the “hero who lies within.”
Whether it’s the sky rocketing 20-foot triple throws of Olympic Pair Champions Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo, or the electrifying magnetism of France’s World Champion Brian Joubert, the entertainment only amps up when a giant LED screen, laser lights, and more, enhance the experience like nothing seen before. Engaging, hip, and fast paced, in one production, b-boys “freestyle” with skaters in an intricate battle of performing skills. Another opportunity offers VIP ticket holders the “Ultimate Skate Experience” with up close access to the private dress rehearsal including a Q & A with cast members.
Presented by AT Sports, more than 40,000 fans have witnessed the sold-out summer showcase in Asia, and now the City of Angels heralds in an exclusive presentation to heat up audiences throughout North America. With a larger-than-life set featuring dazzling special effects, STAPLES Center is transformed into an intimate ice-theatre setting where skaters turn the luster of Olympic gold into brilliant performances for “2010 All That Skate LA.”
